Congressmen Supported by Private MI Bridge Owner May Block Funding for Competing Public Bridge

Detroit Free Press: “If anything, the strong Republican Party gains in the recent midterm elections could make it even harder to win U.S. financing for the plaza, estimated at $250 million depending on the design. Republicans, as well as some Democrats, many of whom received campaign contributions from Ambassador Bridge owner Manuel (Matty) Moroun, may try to block funding for the plaza. Moroun stands to lose considerable traffic and toll revenue from his privately owned bridge once the new government bridge opens.”
